Dhorpatan Valley lies in Ward 9 of the Dhorpatan Municipality of Baglung district, Nepal. Owing to its amazing beauty, rich biological diversity and high level of spiritual significance as a most famous religious site in Nepal, the municipality area to which it belongs is named after it. Dhorpatan name is a combination of two words: Dhor (= a swamy / marsh land) and Patan (= a flat pastureland / grassland / grazing land / meadow). Its reserve area extends between the altitudes of 2,850m and 7,000m. Dhorpatan is characterized by its alpine, temperate, and sub-alpine types of vegetation and harbours 18 species of mammals, 137 species of birds, and nearly 60 species of vascular plants. This highland ecosystem is home to such rare and endangered wildlife species as blue sheep, musk deer, Himalayan thar, and red panda, leopards, cheer pheasant, and Daphe, the national bird of Nepal.

The Dhorpatan Valley
It embraces in its clean and serene ambience such features as freshwater springs, river, lake, hills and hillocks and spectacular views of snow-capped mountains like Dhaulagiri, Gurja, Churen, and Putha. Dhorpatan Valley constitutes a mountain wetland (simsar) ecosystem with good fertility for the high yields of a variety of field crops, vegetables and fruits. Besides, over 50 percent of the reserve area possess such important herbs as Yarsagumbu, Panch Aunle, Jatamasi, Nirmasi, and Chiraaito. The Dhor Baraha Temple by the side of the sacred UttarGanga river is a popular pilgrimage site where thousands of devotee throng especially on the occasions of Janai Purnima and Shivaratri festivals every year. Other similarly famous and revered spiritual sites that many pilgrims visit in this area is the Chyantung Monastery on the eastern side of the valley and the Rudra Lake a few kilometers away to the southeast.

Things to Remember
Important guidelines and regulations for visiting Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve. Please follow these rules to ensure a safe and responsible visit.
An entry fee of Rs. 300 (Foreigners), Rs. 1500 (SAARC Nationals), Rs. 100 (Nepali) visitor and Rs. 25 for tourist porter should be paid at designated ticket counter.
The entry permit is non-refundable, non-transferable & is for a single entry only.
Entering the reserve without a permit is illegal. Reserve personnel may ask for the permit, so visitors are requested to keep the permit with them.
Get special permit for documentary/filming from the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation (DNPWC).
Documentary/filming fee of US $1500 (foreigners), Rs. 50,000 (SAARC Nationals) and Rs. 10,000 (Nepali) should be paid at DNPWC. Additional 25% should be paid while using drone for documentary/filming.
Drone (UAV) fee is same as documentary/filming fee while using it for other purposes.
Don't remove or damage plants and animals. All flora and fauna are fully protected and must not be disturbed.
No one should walk within the reserve between sunset and sunrise.
Do respect the cultural and religious sites.
Camping inside the reserve is allowed only at the designated areas.
Bring back non-biodegradable items such as batteries, plastic bags, and bottles.
Don't drive in protected areas, should be only on roads. If you break the concerned rules and regulations, penalty should be paid.
Never trek alone, hire a local guide if you can't find a companion.
